Bat Removal and Exclusion in Kalifornsky
The Critter Squad Inc. provides bat removal, bat exclusion and guano cleanup in Kalifornsky, AK for homes, garages and outbuildings along K-Beach.
Most of our Kalifornsky calls come from newer subdivisions along Kalifornsky Beach Road, plus older bluff-side homes. The newer builds are tight, so when bats get in it is almost always through one detail: a ridge vent that was installed without the proper baffle, or a bathroom and dryer vent hood with no working damper.
Vent hoods are worth checking yourself. If the flap is stuck open or the plastic has cracked in the cold, that is an open door into the wall or attic. We replace them with metal hoods and screened dampers as part of the sealing work.
On the bluff side, wind exposure combines with older cedar and T1-11 siding that has pulled loose at the seams. Those seams give bats a shallow gap to work into behind the siding rather than the attic itself, which is why we probe siding joints during the inspection.
What We See in Kalifornsky
- Ridge vents installed without a proper baffle
- Cracked or stuck-open dryer and bathroom vent hoods
- Loose T1-11 and cedar siding seams on bluff-exposed walls
- Bats in wall voids rather than open attic space

How the Work Is Done
- 1Inspection
Roofline, attic, vents, soffits and siding, plus a dusk watch to confirm which openings are live.
- 2Seal up
Every secondary gap and vulnerable detail is closed first, leaving only the active entrances open.
- 3Exclusion
One-way devices go on the active entrances so bats leave and cannot get back in.
- 4Removal
Devices come off once nothing is exiting, and the final entrances are permanently sealed.
- 5Cleanup
Guano removal, sanitizing and insulation replacement where the colony contaminated it.

Full detail on the sequence and the timing rules is in our Kenai Peninsula bat removal guide.

Kalifornsky Bat Removal Questions
Our house is only ten years old. How are bats getting in?+
Newer homes are tight everywhere except the vents. Ridge vents without baffles and vent hoods with failed dampers are the two entries we find most often on newer K-Beach builds.
We hear scratching in the wall, not the attic. Is that still bats?+
It can be. Little brown bats use shallow wall voids behind siding, especially where a seam has pulled loose. We confirm it by watching the wall at dusk before we seal anything.
How much does it cost to fix vents and a ridge vent properly?+
Vent work is usually the smallest line on the quote: metal hoods with working dampers, screened vent covers and a baffled ridge detail. Cost scales with how many vents the house has, not with square footage.
How long do the one-way devices stay on the house?+
A minimum of seven days, longer if the weather stays cold and the bats are not flying every night. We do not close the final entrance until we have confirmed nothing is still exiting.
Do you warranty vent and siding repairs?+
Yes. Hoods, screens and siding seams we close are covered in writing, and the materials we use are metal and screen rather than plastic that cracks in the cold.
